I've had my fair share of dealing with wishful thinkers. It's part of the job description. It doesn't make it less stressful, but at the end of the day, I get paid doing my job.
One thing I noticed though that never fail to amaze is how much people think if they say something out loud, they honestly and truly believe it will happen. No matter how ridiculous the request, they think if you can hear their voice say it, then you can do it at the moment they request it. It's as if they can just say, "Hey, let's win the lottery today", that will actually happen. The best part is, by saying "let's" (a short version of let us, which include both parties), they mean "you" but do it for "them". So what they are really requesting is, "Hey, you win the lottery for me today".
They ignore what is involved to do the work, and no matter what they tell you, they really do NOT care. I hear it in different forms all the time, mostly it comes down to: "Hey, let's do this months long project in 5 days for a handful of peanuts."
I have to use every muscle in the back of my throat to resist saying,
"Hey, let's tie some peeled bananas to our asses, and go bend over in front of a giant hungry gorilla in heat."
Both render the same results: You get screwed, by a big dumb F-er. Smashing fun!
