As I get older, my friends get older as well. I start to see more people getting married, then pregnant, then popping out babies. People love their own babies, and make that baby their first priority. It's all but natural. But what's unnatural is that they expect you to react the same way they do towards the little rugrat.I can definitely tolerate the baby pictures I receive from my friends. In fact, even someone as cynical as I am, sometimes enjoy those pictures. I see the joy and love in their eyes and I am happy for them. But honestly, I have no emotional attachment for the little ball of poop and drool. Sometimes they look cute, sometimes they don't. It's pretty much a crapshoot.
When I see a baby in person, I try not to make any sudden movement to basically avoid the chance of having to hold it. When parents ask me, "Do you want to hold him". I really want to say, "No, I don't". I don't know where it's been, oh wait, I do know, it was immersed in your vagina just a couple of months ago. No thank you, shower it for a few more years then we'll talk.
I know, I'm going to be a great mom when the time comes.
