Shake, shake, shake!

I've always had a healthy respect for elders. Though in my foolish younger years (before 20), I had a sense of invicibility that made me think I could never be an old person. I regarded an old person as someone who was never young, and somehow different than I. Silly, I know. I no longer think that way. But I do sincerely hope, I will not shake too much when I grow old.

Once upon a time, I got on a bus,
Only to find, two elderly men,
Sitting up front, making a fuss.

I watched and watched, and suddenly understood,
They weren't making a fuss,
But only shook, as the elderly could.

Their conversation was cheery, their spirits were bright,
One extended his hand, to try to hand over something white,
It was a piece of paper, with his number in sight.

The other old man, also extended his hand,
What happened next, I could barely stand,
Try as they might, as they shook and shook,
Their hands would not meet, under command.

It was funny and sad,
I had to control my laugh,
Minutes passed, I felt so bad,
I stood up and walked over a tad,

To help the old men connect their hands.
Meanwhile in my head, all I could hear,
Was the song by KC and the Sunshine Band.
